Give Arden a Second Chance at Life
Donation protected
After losing my beloved Doberman, Hagen, two short weeks ago, I decided to open my heart to a dog in need. That's when I found Arden, a young German Shepherd pup at our local pound after being found as a stray. I immediately felt a connection with her, and decided to complete an adoption last Saturday. While we could not bring her home until she was spayed on Friday, we visited every day to bond and work with her. Today we were supposed to bring her home to a bed full of toys, treats, and food puzzles, but this morning I received a call that changed the plans.
Arden was struggling to breathe as she came out of anesthesia, and further testing revealed she was heartworm positive. The pound asked if I still wanted her, and I said yes as the implied alternative was euthanasia.
My mother and I rushed Arden to a specialty animal emergency clinic, one of the best in our state, and while the ER vets were able to stabilize her a more serious issue was discovered. The real cause of the breathing difficulty was not the heart worms, but rather a diaphragmatic hernia, where her liver and spleen have pushed into her chest cavity and are compressing her lungs.
Now, her life depends on surgical repair on Wednesday, December 4th, estimated to cost $4,500 to $5,500. This is a necessary surgery, but the specialists are very optimistic about the outcome if we are able to act fast. After this surgery she will need treatment for the heartworms which will likely cost an additional $2,000 to $3,000. I have already spent $1,100 for her emergency treatment, and I did so without question. However, we need your help to save her.
We have only known Arden for a short time, but she has already stolen our hearts. Despite everything she has been through she is sweet and lively. This young and resilient girl deserves a second chance at happiness and longevity, so that she can be a member of our family for years to come. In honor of Hagen's passing, I feel like I have to save her since I couldn’t save him.
Any amount you can give, no matter how small, will make a difference in saving her life. Every dollar will go toward her surgery, heartworm treatment, and supportive care. If you cannot donate, sharing her story means the world to us.
Thank you for helping us fight for Arden and showing her the love and kindness she so desperately deserves.
