Give a Slice of CMES-Pi

Tax deductible
Techies Without Borders is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. We provide free information technology support to people in resource-scarce countries. Our present "cure" is called Continuing Medical Education on Stick (CMES) and CMES-Pi. Partnering with Emergency Medicine Reviews and Perspectives  (EM:RAP) we donate and deliver free monthly continuing medical education (cme) podcasts to doctors and nurses who otherwise wouldn't have access to cme.

Word of mouth has spread and we have requests from two hospitals in  Uganda, one in Antigua and one in St. Lucia for CMES-Pi. We need your help to purchase four Pi units and support the backend costs of running the server which makes delivery of the cme content possible. We are also scheduled to install in Ecuador in October at two hospitals and one clinic.

What is a slice of CMES-Pi you ask? CMES-Pi is a raspberry-pi based offline server...think of it as a mini computer the size of your hand...which provides real-time access to cme content at locations with intermittent electricity or Internet. This device, installed usually in the emergency department, will update the content whenever there is Internet connection, even if it is three times a year. Practitioners access CMES-Pi cme through their mobile phones or through a web browser from a computer. Implementation is possible at rural health clinics, primary health care centers, hospital emergency rooms, and medical colleges.

The new requests are at teaching hospitals so the impact and need are crucial. Help us reach our goal of $2000 USD which will supply all four hospitals with a CMES-Pi unit, meet our obligation in Ecuador and support our IT infrastructure server needs for one year.
Think about the daily work challenges...if you lived in a country where electricity was intermittent and the Internet even more unreliable...I do, every time I sit at my desk, illuminated by a light and switch on my laptop. It's your chance to make a difference.
