Kerala Flood Relief 2018, GISA@UCLA

The beautiful state of Kerala, also known as "God's Own Country", in India is currently under a state of emergency due to widespread floods and landslides, the worst in the state's history. Many cities are underwater from the incessant monsoon rains. Thirty-five out of the forty-two dams within the state had to be opened due to the alarmingly rising water levels resulting in massive flooding across all the 14 districts in Kerala. The death toll has reached more than 350 and over 800,000 Keralites have been displaced to more than 3200 relief camps spread all across Kerala. There has also been catastrophic damages to various infrastructure throughout the state of Kerala. The total estimated losses reported by the state government is now estimated to be more than $3 Billion US dollars. Some our fellow Bruins' families were also affected. The state of Kerala and its people need financial support and our prayers. Both the Central Government of India and the State Government of Kerala are trying their best to assist the people but the scale of disaster is beyond the reach of the governments.
Who Are We
We are the Graduate Indian Student Association (GISA) ( http://ucla.orgsync.com/org/gisa/home) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). We extend our love and prayers to all our Keralite Bruin siblings and their family and friends. GISA@UCLA wants to financially support the state of Kerala by launching this fundraiser. Please contribute even the smallest possible amount. All the proceeds will be donated to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund ( https://donation.cmdrf.kerala.gov.in/).
