GIRLS NOLA's Pink Drive

Tax deductible
It’s that time again! The Dinerral Shavers Educational Fund’s GIRLS NOLA Initiative is proud to announce its second annual Pink Drive.

Last August, the New Orleans City Council voted unanimously to remove the sexist 'pink tax' from menstrual products and diapers, per Council Resolution 33,090. In honor of this effort, GIRLS NOLA hosts an annual “Pink Drive” to benefit young women and girls across our community.

The Pink Drive is a community project hosted by the participants of DSEF’s GIRLS NOLA Initiative. Girls Initiative for Reproducing Leaders in Society (GIRLS NOLA) is a girls’ mentorship and empowerment program, which utilizes integrative arts and gamification techniques to educate young women and girls about their Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR). This program has been designed to address pressing issues that young women in urban communities face; such as leading HIV and STD rates, teen pregnancy, violence, and reproductive health disparities as a result of the lack of comprehensive sexual education. Through our 11-module curriculum, GIRLS NOLA offers youth the knowledge and skills that will enable them to make well-informed decisions when it comes to their bodies and overall health.

We are pleased to have the continued support of Mayor Latoya Cantrell and the office of Youth and Families, Councilmember At- Large Helena Moreno, Councilmember Kristin Palmer, Councilmember – Elect Leslie Harris, Representative Aimee Freeman, Representative Mandie Landry, and Representative Candace Newell. As this is a trying time for many, our GIRLS NOLA team is excited about giving back to our community and helping those in need. We will be accepting personal hygiene donations such as sanitary napkins, tampons, panty liners, underwear, and cozy socks, as we will be distributing personal hygiene and self-care kits to girls across the city. Donated items can dropped off to the 1st floor lobby of New Orleans City Hall, and monetary donations can be made via our GoFundMe Page .

The Dinerral Shavers Educational Fund is a non- profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in March of 2007. This organization was created in memory of Dinerral Shavers, an educator, musician, entrepreneur, and New Orleans Civil Sheriff. In honor of his passing, the Dinerral Shavers Educational Fund hosts several programs and initiatives to promote youth empowerment, community development, and enhanced educational opportunities in the city of New Orleans.
