Girl up is a global movement for GENDER EQUALITY. 

Girl Up is giving girls the same opportunities as boys, in underdeveloped countries.

According to “The Girl Effect”, when a girl turns twelve and she is living in poverty, she is automatically labeled as a woman. She is forced to marry at the age of 13 and give birth around the age of 15. If she survives childbirth she may have to sell her body in order to support her family. This puts her in danger of contracting HIV. This is definitely not the life people would imagine for a twelve year old girl.

So what is Girl Up? Girl Up is not just a charity, it's a movement. Girl Up encourages people around the world to raise awareness and funds to HELP girls in underdeveloped countries get the education and safety they need (just like the boys).

"Girls are powerful. When they are educated, healthy, safe, and counted they transform their communities. Girl Up the adolescent girl campaign, engages girls to stand up for girls empowering each other and changing our world. Led by a community of passionate advocates, raising awareness and funds, our efforts help the hardest to reach girls living in places where it's hardest to be a girl."

Girl up helps and empowers girls in Guatemala, Ethiopia, Liberia, Malawi, Uganda, and India by getting them an education, medical care, and safe environments so they can have a bright future.
