Hallo everyone, I am setting up this fund for my beautiful friend, Gira Carstens.
Gira has spent the last two years in recovery from an eating disorder, which has taken many shapes & forms over the last 12 years.
It became maladaptive & striped her of everything. There were storms that pushed her to the point where she felt she could no longer survive another day in her mind or in her body, nor did she want to. In that complete breaking-she desperately wants her life back. She is willing, determined and hopeful and she has been able to start healing.
Currently, she is continuing her inpatient treatment at a center called Imani in Cape Town, South Africa, that specializes in eating disorders, mental health behaviors, co-occurring diagnoses.
Anyone who has suffered from an eating disorder or witnessed someone suffer from an eating disorder, knows how brutally painful recovery is emotionally, physically, mentally and financially.
There is a lot of misconceptions about eating disorders and they look different on everyone. It is a psychiatric illness and letting go of an eating disorder is incredibly difficult. It’s terrifying, causes immense suffering and it is all consuming.
Gira is at a pivotal point in her recover right now and in order for her to continue her treatment she needs R55 000 ($3800).
So, I ask anyone and everyone for any donation that will help make Gira's recovery a little easier.
