My husband and I found out in August of 2014 that I was pregnant and would be welcoming our blessing into the world around May 8th.  When I was 8 weeks pregnant I received my first ultrasound. We were told some shocking but exciting news. We were going to have twins!! At 16 weeks we found out that we were going to have boys. We were just thrilled! (We have 2 girls at home already- 18 month old and 3 yr old).

At 22 weeks and 4 days,  I had a premature rupture of one of the membranes (water broke).  I was immediately put on 100% bed rest at the hospital until I delivered. I received an ultrasound every couple days to make sure the babies were ok. I made it to 23 weeks and everything looked great. I then made it a few more days and everything still looked great. The morning of 24 weeks I got an ultrasound and was told the same thing as the rest, "Everything looks great. Continue to rest and let's hope your here a very long time."

Well, later that day I started contracting. I was moved to labor and delivery and they were going to try and stop my contractions. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful and before I knew it my husband was getting dressed in scrubs and I was being prepared for a c-section. This was one of the scariest times in our life. We knew  that delivering at 24 weeks, our odds were not good.

The night of Friday, January 16th I delivered 2 beautiful baby boys, Gio and Leo. They both had to be taken right away by the nicu team to be hooked up to everything imaginable.  This was heartbreaking to not be able to hold my babies right after they were born. My husband went with the nicu team to be with our babies while the doctors finished my surgery.

After my surgery they brought me up to the nicu so I could see my babies for the first time.  They were tiny! Weighing in at only 1lb 8oz and 13 inches long.  Gio and Leo were fighters from the start. The doctors thankfully were able to get the both of them stable.

Saturday,  January 17th, our life changed.  The phone rang in my hospital room and it was the nicu doctor. I will never forget his words, "Leo is not doing good. Can you and your husband come to the nicu right away?" So, we immediately headed that way.  When we arrived they were ventilating Leo at 100% oxygen but he was not responding. The doctor told us the words that no parent ever wants to hear, " I'm sorry but there is nothing else we can do. He is just not responding".

They took Leo off all the machines.  My husband and I were able to hold Leo for the last few minutes of his life.  From that moment on, a part of my heart will always be missing.

Today, January 23rd Gio is 1 week old and staying strong. I know Leo is giving his brother the strength  he needs to hold on.   Please pray for my family as we head down this long and bumpy path.

Thank you in advance for each and every donation.  It is appreciated more than words can express. We know this journey is not going to be easy, but with love and support it will make it a little less hard.

Thank you,
