Ginny Chau Commemorative Bench

Donation protected
Update#2: The kindness keeps pouring in and we are so touched by the continued contributions the this memorial collection. We have met our bench and tree goals, and as we continue to look into the "Little Free Library", we also want to use any additional donations for other memorial projects.  Therefore, we'll keep the donation page open for anyone who may still want to contribute, and we'll keep you posted on the progress and results. Thank you very much to all who have  joined the effort to build lasting tributes to Ginny.

Update #1: Our hearts are warmed by the generosity of Ginny's friends and loved ones - after only a few days, we've exceed the goal for the bench. We'd like to keep the momemtum, and Ginny's memory, going by increasing our goal to include a memorial tree & plaque ($738), and the installation of a "Little Free Library" near the park (~$500), which would really represent Ginny's deep fondness for books and literature. Hope that the spirit of generosity continues. Deep thanks to all who have shared their wealth in Ginny's memory.

It is with great sadness we learned of the sudden passing of Wychwood Tennis Club President, tennis companion and dear friend Ginny Chau.

Ginny joined Wychwood in 2002, quickly becoming active in the Club, playing competitively on the Ladies Team, even taking on the role of team Captain. For a number of years she volunteered as the Club's social coordination, then in 2014 took on the duties of Club President.

We will remember Ginny for her positive welcoming aura, sportsmanship and generous spirit. We will also remember her for all the delicious paninis, salads and fun she shared with us especially at BBQs. As team Captain, Ginny was famous for her elaborate meals planned for away teams, and gave WTC a reputation for fabulous food and fair play. As Club President, she helped bring about our online membership system, which has greatly improved the registration process for members and membership management for the Executive.

Her friends at the tennis club are starting this collection in order to fund a commemorative bench in Hillcrest Park in her memory. Through the city's Commemorative Tree and Bench Program, we would like to raise enough funds to install a bench with a plaque at a cost of $2,530.00 .  It is  our hope that this bench will remain as a tangible reminder of Ginny's kind and helpful nature, and we hope, a comfort to her family and friends.

If we exceed the goal ($2,530.00 is the city's fee for the bench and plaque), any donations above the goal will be put towards a tree, or other memorial to complement the bench.
