GGL- Gina's Gift for Life
This is a story about Gina, a grade 2 teacher with the Toronto Catholic District School Board who has dedicated her life to her students. Gina needs your help. Gina's journey started six years ago when she found out that she has the BRCA1 gene that can lead to an increased risk of cancer, particularly breast or ovarian in women.
As a precaution, Gina decided to have a double mastectomy and have her ovaries removed to decrease her risk. This decision was not made lightly and in the end it resulted in a “clean bill of health”. She returned to a “normal” life with her loving husband and two beautiful children, Cristina and Anthony… THEN the unimaginable occurs… Gina is now facing Triple Negative Stage 4 Breast Cancer. Doctors here have given up. WE ARE NOT! Gina is frantically heading to a hospital in Germany to receive cutting edge chemotherapy treatment not available yet in Canada and will face the battle of her life. She needs to leave in 2 weeks, as time is of the essence. Each treatment costs between $25,000 Euros and she needs a minimum of 4 treatments. Therefore, we are desperately hoping to raise over $100,000 with your help.
