Hello my name is Sandy Pacelli, I am Giliana Maldanados grandmother aka GIGI.
At the age of 3 Giliana was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome, an extremely rare kidney condition. It causes protein to leak into the bodies tissues, causing extreme swelling of the face, belly and extremities as well as high cholesterol and high blood pressure. There hasn't been a lot of research on this condition or as of now there is no cure. We are hopeful that by the time she is a teenager she will grow out of it. Giliana has been admitted to the hospital numerous times, sometimes for a week at a time. She has to endure pokes and "ouchies" as she calls them as well as iv's and extensive testing. When she relapses she becomes very tired, out of breath and very frustrated with herself. Giliana loves to go to school to play with her friends but now she is very self conscious of her appearance.
Marissa and Carlos are going through a very difficult time, emotionally and financially. There are many new expenses on the way. Like medications, 2nd opinions, an auto immune diet and other treatments that are not covered by insurance. Currently Giliana is steroid dependent and will need to have a kidney biopsy to see what kind she has, so doctors can find her the right medication to try to put her in remission. Then she will have to endure endless visits to the Nephrotic Clinic/Hospital to check blood levels and other testing as well. This has all been very heart wrenching and stressful. If you could find it in your heart to donate, Giliana and her family will be forever grateful.. The donations will go toward her seeing an experienced specialist, new diet, hospital stays and new drug costs now and in the future. All of this can put this terrible syndrome into remission which she desperately needs and wants. Your support and prayers mean so much..
Thank you for taking the time to read Giliana's story. Please share and spread her story.
Gilly
