Gihon Women Centre: 2020 Showcase

Hello everyone :). My name is Vimbai and I had an amazing opportunity to volunteer at Gihon Women Empowerment Centre in September-October 2019. This is an NGO based in Kitengela, Kenya that focuses on empowering & educating women as well as providing education & food to the less fortunate children in the community.
The women who attend the group come from different backgrounds. While some are survivors of FGM, domestic violence, or HIV/AIDS, others have been socially isolated or struggle from mental illness. Gihon has recently started a new Rehabilitation & Recovery program for women looking to abstain from alcoholism & prostitution.
The organisation provides a range of support, including counselling, self-development workshops, group support, home visits and classes to equip the women with the skills they need to acquire jobs or become self-employed.
I had the opportunity to witness the amazing work that the women produce, including dress making, beauty therapy, hair dressing, jewellery making & make-up artistry. Today, the women only share their talents amongst one another but it is my desire for the women to have the opportunity to showcase their work in the local community. This opportunity will help the women build confidence in themselves and their work as well as raise awareness of their great work potentially leading to job opportunities.
Given the great opportunity, Gihon will be hosting a showcasing event to promote the womens work. There will be an entrance fee that will go towards the lunches for the women as the Centre is not always able to provide food given the fluctuation of outside funding.

Proposed Date For The Showcase: 8 June 2020.
Location: Kitengela, Kenya
Purpose: To provide the women at the Gihon Centre an opportunity to showcase their talent and provide opportunities to the various women.
Any money raised will be used for the following:
-Equipment & material needed for the women to prepare for the show case.
-Venue for the showcasing event
-Marketing for the event (flyers & posters)
-Photographer
