Gift in Memory of Stefan Sperling

Dear Members of the Stanford Law Community,
Following the loss of our dear classmate and friend Stefan Sperling '13 in August 2016, there has been a discussion of how Stefan's Stanford friends can help to honor his memory.
After considering an appropriate and lasting way of memorializing a friend, colleague, and exceptional intellect, several of Stefan's close friends in our class have decided to support a gift, in Stefan's memory, of a new set of reading room chairs to be placed in the library of Deep Springs College. Stefan graduated from Deep Springs in 1992 and later taught there, and we remember that he frequently reflected on the college with happiness. The chairs, ten in total, will be accompanied by a plaque in the reading room, which will read (subject to minor revisions):

The cost of the memorial is $6,000. The goal is to raise $3,000 from the SLS community. Any funds raised in excess of that amount will be given to the Stanford Alumni Fund in memory of Stefan.
