Be A Part of Helping Brew Graduate!

Hi,

My name is Courtney Brewer. I am a former 4-year college athlete and I was supposed to be a 2011 graduate of Lynchburg College. It may be 4 years later, but today I am calling on YOU to help me reach that goal.

As a high school graduation gift, my grandma decided whatever expenses for college that scholarship and loan money did not cover, she would. On June 26, 2009, after a long, hard battle with cancer, and caring for so many people before she even thought to care for herself, my grandma passed away. It was, without a doubt, the hardest day of my life and for a long time I wasn't sure if I wanted to finish college. I would say my grandma was my best friend and saved my life on more than one occasion, so to not have her with me as I took on a big dream of mine was unimaginable. It took me a couple of semesters, but I regained focus and knew what I needed to do was not only for me, but for the memory of my grandma, and to set an example for my little sister.

While my grandma was paying for me to accomplish my dream, my mom and stepdad were paying for hospital bills. My stepdad became sick my senior year in high school, but after a couple years of sickness, we learned he was originally misdiagnosed. For my parents, the hospital bills had piled up along with trying to pay for my remaining years in college. Times were hard and my focus was not where it needed to be for me to make it through the final stretch.

After my senior season of basketball, I had to take a leave of absence. I was finally back on track and ready to graduate, and then it was like I was losing my grandma all over again; maybe not necessarily losing my grandma, but losing our dream of me being a college graduate with a bright future. I took some time off, which wasn't what I wanted to do, but it was the smartest thing for me to do. It allowed my parents a little time to financially get back on their feet, I got to be around for my little sister, play semi-pro basketball, but more importantly work and save money so I could return to school.

Besides an internship and a semester for a language, I am now down to 1 final class that I absolutely need to graduate. I need your help to pay off the balance for a previous semester and my upcoming class. I have had my time in college and I have had my time in the real world, and as crazy as it sounds, I feel ready for the rest of my time in the real world. I feel like graduating college is the one incomplete thing hanging over my head. There are so many things I'm ready to get out there and do, but feel unable to because I know what my main priority is...FINISH SCHOOL. I am an art major and a dreamchaser, so I WILL get out there and be hired as a graphic designer by an amazing company, I WILL try and play a few more years of basketball, I WILL be a college coach one day, I WILL travel and see the world, I WILL make all the people who have helped me over the years proud, and I WILL show my little sister (who is now a freshman in college) what it means to persevere and go after what you want. However, none of these dreams can be accomplished without your help.

So whether it be a penny, nickel, or even a prayer...I ask that you do whatever your heart desires. Thank you for reading my story and for your contribution to my success! One love! :)
