Matt's Heart Transplant

My amazing, caring, sweet Uncle Matt is on the list for a heart transplant. He has had reoccuring heart problems for years. It started with congestive heart failure in 2004, They fit him with a pacemaker/defibrillator in August of 2006, but he was forced to stop working in October 2006, at the age of just 45, because of poor health. He applied for disability then but didn't receive it until 2008!
Matt's health was stable for several years but started getting worse over the last year and a half. Last April his pacemaker/defibrillator saved his life. He was home by himself and the doctor said that if he wouldn't have had the device then he would have died that day.
His local heart doctor recommended that he go see the transplant team at Allegheny General Hospital to see if he would be a candidate for a transplant. After many tests it was determined that he is.
In the mean time, under doctor suggestion, he has had heart surgery to fit an LVAD (Left Ventricle Assistive Device) to keep him alive until a match can be found. Without it they only gave him 18 months to 2 years to live. This is not a long term solution, but merely a stepping stone to a heart transplant.
Even though his family have insurance, they still have deductibles to meet along with travel expenses. He goes to Pittsburgh once a month right now, which is a 5 hour round trip. And when he has his surgery, he will be in the hospital for between 2-4 weeks. So, we are looking to raise $15,000 to offset these costs.
Matt is such a kind, caring man! He is the father of 3 and grandfather to 2. We love him so much and want to keep him around for many years to come! If you could help in anyway, it would mean so much to us.
