Amber's World Challenge Adventure

Donation protected

Hello,
I'm Amber,
I was introduced to the World Challenge Adventure to Vietnam and Laos through school.
As soon as I heard about it I was immediately excited.

The next step of my journey was the information night, which I took my mother and father along to so as they got the idea behind it and hopefully get excited like I did :)

At the information talk, not even half way through, I turned to my parents and said "I'm going. You have no say in it, and I will do what ever it takes to get there!" obviously in a nice kind of way ;)

Mum and Dad took one look at me and laughed saying "How did we know you were going to say that" and they said they would do anything to support me with the process.

Let me explain what "The World Challenge" is.....well.......... it's a program designed to get young people like myself out of the class room and into a learning environment in the real world.

There are six main parts to the whole experience of The World Challenge let me tell you what they are :

First and foremost there is the PLANNING and PREPARATION phase.   This involves a number of things like getting to know the people you are going with, learning about where you will be going, organising everything...... oh ..... and by the way did I mention IT'S COMPLETELY RUN BY THE KIDS GOING ON THE TRIP!!!!!!

Now don't freak out........ there are 3 adults supervising and they are always there if something goes horribly wrong......... I really hope it doesn't :) ...........

So that means we, the participants, organise EVERYTHING. This includes, the flights, food, accommodation, transport to country as well as transport once we are in country, fundraising, money management during the adventure
and all the decision making.

The second part and a significant part of the idea of The World Challenge is that all the money needs to be fundraised by the participant, which is me :) This is not about the parents simply funding the adventure.
I must raise all of the funds myself WOW!!!

The amount I need to raise is $7,000
Yea, I know, that's A LOT of money......

The third part is actually in country, this is the ACCLIMATISATION phase when we take some time to get used to the country for example the temperature, the weather, the native language, the food, the people, that sort of thing.

The fourth part is THE PROJECT phase  where we go into the community and do something to help them. We have to choose which project we want to do as a group,  We have now chosen 4. working with an orphanage. These are some of the options:

1. Village. We go into the village and live with the locals. This means we eat what they eat, we sleep where they sleep, we do what they do......

2. Homeless and disabled. We go out and help them.

3. School. We build a school or do repairs on an existing one or put up climbing frames etc

4. We have chosen working with an Orphanage

The fifth part is the TREK.  For the trekking we have a few to choose from and at this point we have chosen the long trek through thick jungle !

The sixth part is the REST and RELAXATION phase.  In this phase we get to go site seeing or visiting places that we haven't yet or we can go shopping in the local markets, that kind of thing  :)
