****UPDATE on Sunday March 19, 2017****
Thank you for your generous donations to our campaign and your patience as we move forward with the process of withdrawing and distributing funds to the displaced residents of Satya Yuga. All contributors have received an email stating that, after consulting with a non-profit attorney, we intend to distribute as much of your donations as possible directly to survivors, without passing the funds through a non-profit. For those of you who want to receive a tax deduction, Oakland’s own 501c3 non-profit Omni Commons has graciously stepped in place of Tloque Nauaque Teocalli as the approved organization to distribute tax deductible funds raised in this campaign. All funds will be transferred to Omni Commons' attorney’s trust account for expedient distribution to the residents in need, either through Omni Commons for tax deductible funds, or directly for non-tax deductible funds. Thank you for your compassion during a difficult time.

Hello All, As some of you have noticed, I have updated the campaign under Gene Mendoza's name. He is a representative and board member of the Tloque Nauaque Teocalli which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and public charity under section 509(a)(1). The residents of Satya Yuga have chosen this non-profit organization to process the funds and distribute them accordingly through consensus of the entire group. All funds will be processed under the organization's bank account (not Gene's personal account). As decided by the Satya Yuga residents, all funds will be distributed evenly and equally to every resident/tenant individually. The board of directors assures that cash would be most beneficial to directly address the immediate needs of every group member considering the severity of the circumstances. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and thoughts. Wishing everyone a new year of healing, health, and progress.
This fund is for the 20 residents who have lost their home and all their belongings in a fire that broke out on Friday 12/2/16.
Here is an updated CNN Article
detailing the incident, with 30 confirmed people killed, and over two dozen people missing. The two-story Oakland warehouse called Satya Yuga - also known as Ghost Ship - was a home, a studio, a venue, and a safe space for local artists, filmmakers, painters, musicians, dancers, and their families. The collective loss of life, shelter, and livelihood is unimaginable. While the community is supporting these artists' immediate needs for lodging and food, there is a long term need to rebuild all belongings lost in the fire. All donations to this fund will go to the residents of Satya Yuga, directly funding supplies and materials needed to support their livelihood.
