HI there!!!
My departure to Ghana is coming up fast!!
I'll be going with my best friend Kimberlyyyy, and will be staying with The Sankofa Centre Organization for 5 weeks.
The Sankofa Centre educates youth and adults about the effects and transmission of HIV/AIDS. Kim and I will be ATTEMPTING to take part in the crucial dance aspect of this program (xD), as well as in the clinical aid and counseling of the community.
(I promise, videos will be posted LOL)
The $3000 to raise goes towards:
-flight
-ride to and from the airport
-lodging and meals for 4 weeks (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
-trips to and from the villages
-program training, rehearsals and related prep
-logistic costs of running the mobile outreach tours in Ghana
-HIV/AIDS testing and medical supplies
-**a new van!! The current van is being used as a tro tro (bus) to bring in a bit of money since it can only be driven on paved roads and cannot be taken into the villages. The van needed for program needs to be replaced as soon as possible!
The extra costs that are not included in the 3000 I'd like to raise are:
-Travel Insurance
-a $200 Yellow Fever Inoculation =(
-Visa to enter the country
(so if I can raise more than the $3000, praise God!!!!)

Heres a little information on the organization itself:
Since 2004, The Sankofa Center, a 501(c)(3) US. operated charity, had educated village youths and adults about how HIV/AIDS is transmitted and prevented, while changing perceptions using culturally comprehensive methods - African dance drams - in Ghana, West Africa. The Sankofa Center also conducts free counseling and testing and provides links to treatment and support services for thousands of women, men, and children in Ghana. Programs consisting of a local crew and cohorts of international interns from US, Canada and the United Kingdom run throughout the year.
