Tyler's Dream (Gym)

Donation protected
Dear Friend’s,   My name is Michael Montgomery. I would like to ask you to take the time to read our story in hopes that you can share with others, ultimately helping us make Tyler’s dream a reality. On April 26, 2018 there was a car accident in Lauderdale County, AL. that not only changed mine and my family’s life but, it changed our community as well.  On that Thursday night in April, there were five young teenagers in a car accident – three young men lost their lives and it changed two young girls and a community’s lives. One of the young men was my grandson Tyler Nelson. Tyler was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Liberty Baptist is a small church near the Central Heights community. In October of 2017, Liberty hired a new youth pastor. The first Wednesday night the youth pastor was there he had five youth – one being Tyler. The youth pastor asked those five youth what they wanted and envisioned for their youth group. Each gave something that they would like to see happen. Tyler’s’ request was to build a gym for he and his friends to have a place to come and shoot basketball and hangout together. Brother Jeremy, the youth Pastor, told Tyler he wasn’t sure how far he would get with asking for a gym if they only had a youth group of five kids and that he couldn’t grow the youth group on his own – he would need their help. He challenged those five youth that night to invite a friend to the next service. Tyler took that challenge. The next service Tyler brought two friends to church with him. Each service after that we would see a new youth with Tyler. He soon had several young men that would come to church with him on Sunday and Wednesday consistently each week – we quickly came to call this group “The Boys”. Tyler’s parents required him to be home on Saturday nights so that he would be sure to be on time for church the next morning. Since Tyler couldn’t go anywhere all the boys came to him. They would all pile up at Tyler’s house and ride to church together on Sunday morning. Tyler, Coby, and Braden the three men who lost their lives were all part of “The Boys” and were very much loved in our community. They were good boys – they loved each other, they loved their friends and families, loved coming to church and loved God. The way the community came together in this time of need is like nothing I have ever seen before – the amount of love and support that was poured out for all of the families was overwhelming.   I say all of this to lay the groundwork for Tyler’s dream of building a gym, so he and his friends and community could have a place to go to & be together. Tyler had a genuine love for his friends and for people in general. He cared about them & more importantly he cared for their souls. Since the accident we have had twenty saved and eighteen of them baptized at Liberty – and more across the county. The youth program has grown from 5 to 28-30 each service. This has been an incredibly difficult time but we give God glory and thanks for his blessing of lives being changed in the wake of this tragedy. We ask that you please support us with your donations and prayers. Thanks your for all your support in making Tyler's Dream come true.
