Gfree-Wifey FoodBank 2021 - Gluten-Free

From 2017-2020 my non-profit passion project #GFREEWIFEYFOODBANK raised $6000 and collected 5000 pounds of gluten-free food to support people experiencing food insecurity on a gluten free diet.
After 3 years of partnering with various food banks, I had a growing list of people who despite our efforts were not receiving the access to safe gluten-free food they needed. Therefore in 2020 I decided to transiting to providing support directly to the people who needed it most. While Braining storming way we could educate organizations on why people were requesting gluten free food and how to safely provide that support. Food banks generally run on volunteer based teams with minimal people requiring access to gluten-free food the investment in time energy and store space is typically not worth it when many organizations are struggling to keep up with demand for people without dietary requirements.
A passion project I started to raise awareness about celiac disease and gluten-related disorders while advocating for access to safe food. With vendor fairs and public speaking engagements and in person food drives all canceled due to the global pandemic our virtual fundraiser is more important than ever!
I now deliver food boxes to people throughout the MUCH LARGER GTA from Toronto, Kitchener Waterloo, Ajax, Pickering, Scarborough, Mississauga, Newmarket, Barrie, Orillia, Collingwood and everywhere in between.
I have been that person who walked away with a box filled with gluten containing products that I could not eat. I know what it is like to wonder if you have to risk your long term health because your hungry. People with celiac medically require a strict gluten-free diet and a beggars cant be choosers mentality is unacceptable.
Your contribution will help us fill and deliver food boxes, and explore other options to get safe food into the hand of people experiencing food insecurity. such as empowering us to shop online and ship direct to our clients.

I would love to be able to help people with access to safe gluten free food but also whole fresh foods being able to build urban and vertical farming project to support the whole food vision while providing jobs and community to those affected by food insecurity. For now we focus on getting the food to those who need it now and partnering with organizations who can accelerate education within the community and organizations that support those with gluten related disorders and celiac.

I may be the one person who thought of this, started this and facilitates the fundraisers, food drives and deliveries but it is the community who comes together to provide the actual support our neighbours need.
