Our Dad, Dale Langel, beloved father, husband, grandfather, brother, and friend is diagnosed with Glioblastoma (GBM), a type of grade IV brain cancer. GBM is a fast-growing, aggressive type of central nervous system tumor.

After undergoing brain surgery to biopsy the mass, this diagnosis was given to him on his 59th birthday, 2/22/18.
When my parents told us that night we cried together, and we've cried almost every day since. But we also smiled, and hugged, and became determined to beat this. My father is the strongest man I know. He is hopeful, he is positive, he is resilient. This will be the greatest challenge of his life, and he is up for it.

Along with traditional treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation, he also spent most of last year in a trial treatment, a high-dose Vitamin C Infusion. For this treatment he had to drive to Iowa City 3 times a week for 8 months. Since this was an experimental treatment it was not covered by insurance. My parents considered not doing it for this reason, but in the end realized that if it helps even a little bit, it's worth any amount of money. Unfortunately, since my dad is no longer able to work, it makes it difficult to pay for this treatment.

On 1/21/19 he will have a second surgery to get as much of the tumor out as possible. Then he will be starting another experimental treatment at Northwestern University , where he will have to drive to twice a month for the foreseeable future.

So we are asking you, our friends and family for help.

The devastating reality is that this disease doesn't have a cure, and we don't know how long we have left with our Dad. But if these treatments allow him to play with his grandchildren a little longer, or take another bike ride, or spend another day in his kayak, or kiss his wife one more time it will have been worth it.

If you choose to donate, thank you. Thank you for helping to give our family more time together. We appreciate you more than you will ever know.
