Lisa's medical expenses

Donation protected

We have kept kind of private what has been going on with Lisa because we wanted to wait until everything calmed down a little bit and we knew she would be okay. On June 22nd she went to urgent care because she was very sick. Thank God that doctor realized the severity and sent Lisa straight to the ER. We had no clue how sick she really was. After a CT scan, they told us they needed to do emergency surgery. At this point we didn't really know what the issue was. Turned out she had 3 infections on top of a flesh eating bacteria all happening internally so she had no clue. It was so severe they did 8 surgeries in 10 days to remove all of the flesh eating bacteria and damaged tissue. (There will be a couple more surgeries to come in a few months). The most terrifying news was when we heard she would not still be here had she waited another day or two to go to the ER.

She is now stable and thankfully all signs of the infections are finally gone. The aftermath of having so many surgeries is going to take many months to heal. We do not know an exact timeline, but she will be in the specialized wound rehab for a little longer until they feel she is showing signs of healing and her pain is managed. Then she will head to a less intense rehab center, and then finally home with the aid of visiting nurses. A visiting nurse needs to come twice a day to change her bandages.

Unfortunately as of now insurance only covers 3 days of nurses- but we are fighting to change that. We have started a go fund me account to help with the extra expenses of having visiting nurses twice a day 7 days a week, their $8,000 deductible, and loss of income since it will be a long time until Lisa can return to teaching. We are working on getting disability but since she is a private art teacher it takes longer.

(And I know everyone's going to say- how did she get the flesh eating bacteria? Well, we have no clue. The Infectious Disease team at Hershey Med were working to try to figure it out, but Lisa had not done any of the typical things they see it happen from.)

Lisa is a private art teacher who gives so much to others while teaching student age kids and seniors living in a nursing home. She has the biggest heart out of anyone we know and will do anything for anyone. Now is our chance to give back to her and help in this time of need. Thank you for your support.
