Study Abroad in Hawaii
Donation protected
Hi everyone! I'm Jaelyn Desiree and I am a first year Nutrition Major at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I have recently applied for a study abroad program in Hawaii, where I will be enrolled in Ethnic Studies classes at University of Hawaii at Mānoa. I will also be able to participate in field trips to learn about Native Hawaiian history and representation, service-learning opportunities through University of Hawaii, and listen to guest lectures by Hawaii based scholars.
As many of you know, my grandmother has recently passed away earlier this year and going to Hawaii was one of her favorite destinations to travel to. When she was a teenager she was given the opportunity to live in Hawaii for a summer and work in the Dole Cannery. When I last asked her about this she told me it was something she never regretted doing and that she enjoyed getting the chance to live in Hawaii. Before I left for college, she told me to take every opportunity I can because if I don't I'll one day regret it and to enjoy everything about it while I'm still young. Ever since I found out about this program, I think about her and how happy she would be to hear about this once in a lifetime opportunity. I believe that in some way this is a sign from her reminding me to make the best of my college years. I want to do this for myself and especially for my Mama.
Donating will help fund the following:
- Course fees
- Residence hall
- Bus Pass
- Airfare
- Meals
Anything will be a huge help to be able to live this experience.
Thank you,
