Memorial/Funeral Expenses

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

I’m not used to asking for help like this ever, although my family has fallen into hard times with something completely unexpected. My father, only 63 years young is currently in the medical ICU at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. He has congestive heart failure, COPD, emphysema, diabetes, and the list can continue to go on.

BACK STORY: My father was transported by abulance to St. Margaret Hospital on September 7 for confusion. They thought that he would get better care at Presbyterian so they transported him there. His pulse was 170, his sugar was 500+, his blood pressure was so high. They did a MRI and found out my dad had a stroke, and not just one stroke, he’s had MULTIPLE strokes. For months previous to this admission, we had taken him to St. Margaret and he was told “you have pneumonia” EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Not ONCE did they find a stroke. My dad spent about a week in the ICU at Presby from September 8-September 15. They found him feeling much better and reacting better and thought physical therapy would be good for him at Montefiore. They sent him over to Montefiore for about two weeks, and during that time last week on Wednesday, September 26 my father called me confused on where he was. He had no idea what was going on. I drove over immediately to see him and to assure him he was there and he was fine. I went to visit him on Thursday September 27, he was so much more awake and aware of EVERYTHING. I fed him a huge cheeseburger and some fries from the cafeteria and also gave him a 3 Musketeer Bar, his favorite. This was all allowed because he was medically stable. All of a sudden Saturday night, my father was sent over to the ICU again at Presby for fluid overload. What happened? How did this happen? He was on fluid restrictions AND lasik! His body is completely failing. He lost about 2 pints of blood last night. I spoke with the resident today again around 9:00pm and he told me this is the way his body is showing us he is dying. He knows we are there, he can feel us, but he can’t see us. His vision is going. Next, his touch will go, and eventually his being. I am so scared for this, but my father has been fighting for a very long time. He is such a fighter. I’m going to miss him so much. ❤️

My father doesn’t have life insurance. He is on Medicaid and Medicare for health insurance. That being said, every bit of his funeral expenses are coming out of pocket. Dad doesn’t have much family left besides myself, my two brothers, my mother (his ex-wife), two sisters and a brother none of us expected this, none of us have the money to lay him to rest. I am now asking for your help. Anything will help. Dad’s wishes are to be cremated, although we will have a viewing for one day. My best friends mom called around to funeral homes within the area for me today and the prices range from $2000 up towards $6000.

Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers during this hard time.

Thank you,
Kaitlyn
