I'm Sam's oldest brother, Jonathan. On behalf of Sam's family, loved ones, friends, fans and supporters; I'm asking for your support and assistance in helping Sam get through this difficult time.
Last week Sam flew to Dallas to undergo a 'routine' surgery to remove his tonsils. The surgery took place on Monday, Nov 3rd. For a few days everything seemed OK. Sam was having trouble sleeping, and was anxious regarding his recovery, but there was no cause for concern.
Yesterday, Sunday Nov 9th, things took a turn for the worse. Sam's right tonsil wound started bleeding slightly. By early this morning (Nov 10th), he was admitted to Centennial Medical Center (Frisco, TX), because the bleeding was not stopping, and had become severe. Within a few minutes of admittance, Sam was induced and underwent a second surgery to cauterize his wounds and stop the bleeding.
The second surgery seemed like a success, and Again, everything seemed OK. We expected Sam to wake up and was scheduled to come home.
As the anathesiologist was about to leave Sam's bedside, she noticed that he had stopped breathing. He flat lined, and she immediately started performing CPR and chest compressions to restart his breathing. Both Sam's breathing and pulse had stopped. After 30 seconds of chest compressions, Sam began breathing again. We are grateful that she was there, and are grateful that he responded to the CPR.
He's currently in an induced sleep, and the doctors expect him to make a full recovery. The plan is to wake him tomorrow, and he is under close supervision in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit), until then.
It has been a very scary, and traumatic experience. We are taking turns watching his bedside, and are keeping an eye on things. We are confident that Sam will make it. We appreciate your support, donations, and kindness; and we know Sam will too.
