Help for Aaliyah and Nikki's Medical Care

Donation protected
On October 14th, 29-year-old Nikki, her two boys (7 and 3), and other family members left on a road trip to San Antonio, Texas. They accompanied family to a convention they were attending, intending to give her a mini-vacation and a chance to spend time with her two sons before her daughter, Aaliyah, was born at the end of November.

On October 18th Nikki was rushed to the ER where she was coughing up blood, among other health issues. An initial screening showed she had high blood pressure, which was presumed to be preeclampsia due to her pregnancy. Shortly before she was due to be released from the ER, a full team of doctors arrived and let her know that they were taking her to an emergency c-section.

Tests discovered that Nikki had less than 25% heart function, which was determined to be unrelated to her pregnancy and has gone undetected for at least 7 years (or more). When Nikki was taken back for her emergency c-section, she went into cardiac arrest and they had to take the baby immediately with little to no prep (only enough soap to make it sterile).

Aaliyah was born at just over 3lbs on 10/18/2022. After birth, she was taken to the NICU where she is to remain until at least 11/24, and Nikki was taken to the ICU with hopes that some of her heart functionality would return post-childbirth.

While Aaliyah is thriving and growing, has been taken off oxygen, and is gaining weight, unfortunately Nikki's heart health has not recovered, and in fact, it's lessened.

Since 10/18, Nikki has remained in San Antonio with Aaliyah, leaving her two sons at home, without their mother. Not having all of her children together has also continued to cause stress on Nikki's already fragile heart condition further jeopardizing her recovery.

Not only has Nikki been facing the stress of being away from her sons, she's also been unable to receive proper follow-up care for herself, as she is in Texas and has Missouri insurance -- so referral doctors are unwilling to schedule follow-up appointments to help her survive. Not to mention, she has been residing in the Ronald McDonald house and not working so she hasn't had access to a proper heart-healthy diet that she needs to have a chance at recovery.

Since 10/18, Nikki's family has been fighting to get Nikki and Aaliyahmedical transport back to Kansas City. Where she can be with her family and support, along with getting proper medical care for herself so that her babies will have their mother with them for the long-term. Once she returns to Kansas City, she will be able to get the care she needs and it will also be determined if she will need a heart transplant at 29 years old.

Due to the nature of this situation, being away from home and the additional costs that come with that, along with being unable to work for an indefinite amount of time, any help that can be provided to Nikki, Aaliyah and family would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
