Kira Oliver Games ‘19

Hi Team ,

Well this just happened.

With the amazing support of the team at Wards Gym, and many others,  throughout the 2019 Crossfit Open, I have managed to be names the National Champion of Barbados in the Crossfit Open.  Which is, I have to say one of my highest achievements, and a great opportunity, under the new format of the Crossfit Games.

The result took me completely by surprise as I've trained with many of the girls at home, they are an inspirational and exceptional group of women and athletes, and I would like to make them and my country proud.   But being that it was a complete surprise, I have not factored this in to our lives at all.  And it would be a dream come true to compete a the Crossfit Games for my country, and for Ward's Gym. I don’t like asking for help financially but if you are in a position to help at all I would be most grateful.

To explain, for those who don't know, I was born and raised in Barbados, then moved to England and Australia.  So when I had to chose my Nationality in the Open I jumped at the chance to represent my country (to clarify I am not an Australian citizen).  Barbados is and will always be my heart and my home, and like any child who's dream was to represent their country on the world stage I would be most humbled to accept this opportunity. And I have, with my male counterpart, accepted The Invite that arrived from Crossfit HQ.

The Games, with the information we have received so far, looks a little different this year, with 6 days of competition and several knock out rounds before the last 2 big days to end the weekend - as in previous years.  So there will be a lot of work to do and A LOT of 'fast exercising'! And chances to meet, train and compete with all of the other 236 National Champions.  See us all here https://www.crossfit.com/sport/2019-crossfit-open-national-champions

The Crossfit Games 2019 will be held in Madison, Wisconsin, so this means getting myself over there, and while I am there, continue training by dropping in to gyms, keeping myself fed and watered and a lot of body maintenance such as massage, physiotherapy etc.  As I mentioned, this opportunity has come as a complete surprise in our lives right now and these costs have not been factored. When I sat down & started to realise the total costs it will take to get me there, with athletes having to pay for registration, Visas, tickets etc etc. It has become a little overwhelming.

I am looking to fundraise enough money to cover some of my flights/travel, accomodation in Madison and athlete tickets through this page and also through some fund raising events.  I know everyone has supported me so far, and I honestly couldn't have done it without any of you but if you did want to donate to part of the journey it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time and your ongoing support - let's get to The Games!!!
