As you all know, Gil suffered from a near fatal brain aneurysm. The progress has been amazing, yet we still have a long ways to go. His physical strength is coming back quickly and there still remains memory issues. He will be transferring to a skilled nursing facility this week to begin more intensive rehab, this guy is amazing!
A number of folks have inquired about a Go-Fund me account early on, but we wanted to wait a bit before making that decision and focus their immediate attentions on Gil. We know have the blessing to move forward with that.
As you all know Gil decided to make a career change last year to become a Medical Assistant, and go to school full time. Thus he went to less than a part time status with the Racquet Ball club where he does personal training and personal massages.
Gil will be entitled to state disability, however, disability payments are based on prior earnings and given his earnings have been minimal over the last year this will mean his disability checks will also be minimal.
The intent of the go-fund me account is to set Gil up so he is debt free when he walks out the door of the hospital and to provide him with some additional funds to support his recovery efforts. As we are all aware, Gil believes in both Western and Eastern medicine and we would like to cover those opportunities for him to have the greatest potential outcome in the quickest amount of time with therapy treatments that may not be covered. While his hospital stay will be covered by insurance, the opportunity to have seek additional physical therapy appointments beyond what insurance will cover as well as other therapies like massage or acupuncture likely will not be. Other expenses might include travel to and from appointments and then basic living expenses until he can get back to work. Our goal is 15,000
