Getting Off The $$ Hamster Wheel

These loveable oddballs and I make a great little family, but we need some help.

When I was 16 I was injured in a car accident which left me missing 90% of my intestines, a condition officially called "short bowel." I don't absorb most of what I eat and have to be careful to get enough vitamins and nutrients or I could literally die of malnutrition. 

In the past few years, I've had several short bouts of illness resulting from my condition, sometimes just keeping me from working full time and occasionally landing me  in the hospital on IV electrolyte replacement.

I've been lucky enough to finally find a full time gig that takes great care of me, and my partner and family do a lot to help, but the bottom line is that lost income and gaps in employment have added up over time and put us in constant financial crisis.

As of the present, our family is about $3,500 in debt  in the form of late bills, overdrawn bank accounts and small loans owed to a couple of friends/family members.

I am at risk of my rent check bouncing this month and have more in past due utility bills than I'll bring in this month, even with the new gig. 

Meanwhile, I am constantly tempted to cut corners on groceries and not meet my special nutritional needs - a bad plan, which may have helped land me in the hospital yet again recently.

I realize I have to dig out of this mess myself, but I'm tired of juggling and of not admitting I need help. So I'm reaching out in case anyone can pitch in,

Short term, we need about $1000 to make sure rent and bills are covered this month.

The full goal amount would bring us out of the negative with the bank and get us caught up on our past due bills, saving us hundreds of dollars in monthly late fees.

We understand that there are lots of folks hurting out there, and you may not be able to give. That said, any little bit gets us closer to being off the "hamster wheel" and self sufficient.
