Emily Walton - Stroke survivor

Donation protected

On May 7th, 2016, just a few months after her 30th birthday, Emily suffered a massive stroke. Thankfully Emily was home with her 15-month-old son, Jackson, and her husband, Kyle.

She was rushed to Grand River Hospital where she received a Clot Buster. Her family waited anxiously for news of her condition. Unfortunately the medication didn’t work. Emily was taken to Toronto Western Hospital for emergency surgery to remove the massive blood clot that had stopped oxygen from reaching many areas of her brain. The next 72 hours were the worst hours anyone can remember. We waited to see if Emily would survive the trauma and the surgery. Each day her young son would visit her in the hospital hoping for a snuggle and a smile from his mom.

Emily survived the stroke and the surgery and is now at Freeport Hospital undergoing intensive speech and physiotherapy. She is working relentlessly to regain movement on the right side of her body so that she can once again hug and play with her son. Emily is also fighting to regain her speech – something the trauma of the stroke has taken from her. Each day she improves but each day also brings her closer to the end of her stay at Freeport. Thanks to shrinking budgets most patients are allotted a maximum of 45 days in care. Once her time is up Emily will sent home whether she is ready or not.

Your generosity will support:

- months of intense therapy that Emily needs to pay for when her benefits run out

- home renovations so that she can navigate in a wheelchair

- a wheelchair

- but most importantly, you will be supporting a young mom regain her strength to once again become an active participant in her son's life.

For those of you who know Emily well, you know that she is a kind and caring woman who would do anything to help a friend. Please help us get Emily home with access to the care and modifications that she needs to resume her life as a loving mom and wife.
