In summer 2021, I will be travelling to Ecuador with Camps International with the hope of having a positive impact in one of the most bio diverse places on the planet. The work I will be doing revolves around having a genuine, positive and sustainable impact on the planet, something which I am passionate about even in my everyday life.
Ecuador is home to part of the Amazon rain-forest, and at 7% of the earth’s land mass, it is crucial that we do work to put an end to the rapid disappearance of our earth’s own lungs. Part of my month-long expedition will include reforesting work in the Amazon, helping combat the staggering rate of deforestation which currently stands at a loss of an area the size of Spain every year.
The aims of the expedition do not just include reforestation. In a country where 40-50% of children in rural areas do not have access to education, we will be contributing to building free schools or other facilities which will benefit the communities for many years after my expedition is over. Additionally, the work that Camps International do is happening year-round. 42% of the money that is raised for my expedition goes directly towards this year-round, sustainable, genuinely impactful development.
I want to go on this expedition because I believe it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to go beyond the climate strikes, by travelling to and helping where help is needed most. I will be able to get hands on experience in a conservation and environment related expedition, an area in which I hope to someday work and continue to contribute to sustainable development both nationally and internationally throughout my life. It is an ambition that I hold close to my heart and I hope that during my lifetime I may help as many people, as much wildlife and conserve as much natural beauty as I can. This is my starting point, I will be doing various fundraisers but any and all help will be appreciated, I need as much help as I can get to bring this beginning to life.
