Fund the rescued GetALong doxies

Donation protected

Thank you for submitting an application to adopt a GetALong Dachshund Rescue rescued dachshund. Prior to processing your application, we need to let you know a few things about our screening process.

1) The first step we take is to contact your vet. We will ask if your current pets are seen at least annually, up to date on shots, heartworm tested with prevention purchased, spayed and neutered. This is a REQUIREMENT. Please let your vet know we will be contacting them! If they don't respond, your application will be stalled and the dog you are hoping to adopt will likely be placed with another adopter.

2) Next, we will call your personal references to see if they think you offer a good home. Please let the people you have listed as personal references know to return our calls. Otherwise your application will stall and the dog you are hoping to adopt could be placed before we can complete your application.

3) When those items have checked out, a member of our adoption committee will call you to discuss everything we know about the dachshund you are interested in. The foster parent might also call to talk with you. They have the best knowledge of the right home for the dog.

4) If you are approved at each of the above three steps, we will move to a home visit. During the home visit all pets and family members listed on the application must be present. No exceptions. Our home visit volunteer will take pictures of your home and your yard and fence for our adoptions team.

5) After the home visit, you will be notified via email if you are approved. A contract will be sent that covers the adoption fee and possibly the cost of a health certificate if you are adopting across state lines.

6) As soon as the signed contract and fees have been submitted, our transport director will line up safe transport with experienced drivers for your new pet. This can sometimes take two weeks.

If you have read the above and would like us to process your application, please click on donate and submit a $20 non-refundable application processing fee. This will not be applied to your adoption fee. It is also non-refundable if your application is not approved.

What does your $20 fee go towards since we are an all volunteer organization?

Every dog coming into our rescue needs to see a vet. The majority of them haven't seen a vet recently. Our rescues alters each dog, if not already spayed or neutered. We bring them current on vaccinations, heartworm tests, fecals, and microchips. Most of them need dentals and often extensive dental surgery. While the dachshunds in rescue wait on their forever home, we supply monthly heartworm prevention, flea & tick prevention and sometimes a special diet. We like to provide a harness, collar, and leash for each dog.

Additionally, our rescue was founded to rescue primarily senior dachshunds. We average 40 forever fosters in a network of foster homes throughout the southeastern US and Texas. These sweet sugar faces need the same monthly preventions and special diets. They also often need to see a vet for issues that senior dogs have.

In summary, adoption fees vary from $125 to $375  depending on age or medical issues. The average vet bills for even young dachshunds can exceed what the adoption fee covers.

We hope you have decided to continue the application process. If so, please click on the donate button and submit the $20 application fee and help support rescued dachshunds!
