Replace Winston's Stolen Bike to Help End AIDS
Donation protected
In Los Angeles, on February 5, 2019, a car was broken into and a bicycle was stolen. But this wasn't just any bicycle – this was the bicycle John Winston Palma used to ride thousands of miles and raise thousands of dollars for AIDS/LifeCycle (ALC), a 545-mile bicycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to help bring an end to the AIDS pandemic.
In 2015, Winston's boyfriend Ken, who had lived with HIV for 15+ years, passed away. Winston inherited Ken's bike and registered for his first AIDS/LifeCycle in Ken's memory. When on his bike, Winston holds in his thoughts Ken and all those who have helped him along in his journey, especially other ALC participants for their commitment to riding and raising funds to help those affected by HIV/AIDS.
Winston is currently training for his third ALC, and he's a third-year member of Team ALCaholics, a team of ALC riders and roadies that together have raised more than $1.3 million for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation & Los Angeles LGBT Center. However, without a bike, Winston won't be able to ride AIDS/LifeCycle this year...so let's remedy that!
Our goal is $2,000:
~$1,700 for a new bicycle
~$100 for a new helmet
~$100 for a new bike computer
~$100 for other miscellaneous parts (pedals, bike tools, etc.)
If we happen to raise more than what Winston needs to buy his bike, we'll donate the rest to his 2019 AIDS/LifeCycle fundraising page!
AIDS/LifeCycle 2019 is June 3-9 but February-May is prime training season. Let's open our hearts and our wallets to raise these funds ASAP so Winston can get back on his bike, back on the road, and back on track for his third AIDS/LifeCycle!
