My husband Aaron Rosenberg had a stroke January 16th 2001. At that time we had just come back from China after adopting our youngest child. Our children were 15 months and 8 when he had the stroke. It left him paralyzed on the left side and in need of his second kidney transplant. As a result of all this he has had many health problems including his kidneys, heart, back, neck, and shoulder. At the time of his stroke, I was told he was not going to survive. He was 43 years old and I had been told to put him in a nursing home which was NOT going to happen. We have spent 17 years struggling in many ways
On October 19th 2017, my husband had shoulder replacement surgery, on the right, non paralyzed side. He needed this because his gait is so off from the left side paralysis that he his rotator cuff was torn in 5 places.
We had agonized over the idea of surgery but realized he had no quality of life and went through with it. After the surgery my husband went to a skilled nursing facility where he was going to remain until January 12, which would have been our last covered day of rehab. He needed to recover enough to walk, dress, shower, and use the bathroom again safely and independently. On January 3 he developed an infection in the shoulder. He is currently in the hospital. He will be in a sling for 6 more weeks on the right shoulder. He has no real motion in three limbs. We have 9 more days of paid rehab left. He cannot safely come home. I have exhausted my days at work and anytime I take off is unpaid. I can't afford to keep him where he needs to be but I cannot take him home until it is safe which may be another few months.
