My name is Niamh (Neeve) and I am a queer, disabled, transgender woman and I live in KY with my fiance, Jamie.

I have been living with my fiance and his mother for the past few years. To put it simply, it is not a livable situation anymore and hasn't been for quite some time for the both of us. It's a hoarding situation often with trash and flies everywhere. We haven't been able to keep up with any of the upkeep of the house purely because of the state of it prior to me moving in, and its been hard on both of us because we both work full-time. All I can say that it's been detrimental to the mental health of my fiance and I, especially when we are also expected to be the caregiver for someone who cannot reliably take care of themselves.

His senior mother's health as been steadily declining and she's been in and out of the hospital regularly in recent days. As of typing this, she was admitted to the ICU a few hours ago and was intubated. We thought that would be the end of the bad news, but as if it were some sort of morbid joke, 2 utilities were turned off. We had no idea that almost all bills were past due because she was the one who would take care of them (and insisting she be the one to pay) as she was the main account holder. What I'm hinting at is that she unfortunately isn't very pleasant to live with, and is Jamie's abuser. But that is another issue entirely.

With the political climate in the US, especially in red states, it is not feasible to stay here. It's not uncommon for me to be called slurs and get actual threats of violence from people I walk past. But we also unfortunately have loose ends that need to be tied before we can make that move. With how much were spending just to stay afloat, we aren't able to afford refuge in a different state (We want to move to PA as we have a strong support network with our friends).

We are in dire straits and we don't know where else to turn to.. I can't say starting this GoFundMe is giving me the warm fuzzies.

As the above implies, there are multiple purposes for us to start this GoFundMe. (I started at $10k just as a ballpark estimate.)

  • Funding the cost to move both me and my fiance to Pittsburgh (which ironically has lower rent and property costs than the area we live in)
  • Paying back past due bills and ensuring we are able to cover any additional costs that may arise while my fiance's mother is in the hospital and we are in the process of moving.
  • Ensuring that his mother gets the care she needs before we move, as it seems very likely she'll have to go into assisted living.

Anything at all, no matter how small, will go towards ensuring a stable living situation and will help get my fiance's mother the care that she needs.

Thank you for listening to our story and for your support.
