Get Together Groups for Elderly and SEN Adults

The Barking and Dagenham Volunteer Bureau have successfully run over 18 get together groups for isolated elderly residents within the community. These were all successful with the support of the lottery 3 year funding.
However, we would now like the opportunity to provide more groups for those adults and also those adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities!
For us to be able to do this, we need the support of our community.
In the past our get together groups have had the opportunity to participate within many borough events, which without these groups, they wouldnt have been able to attend. This includes the borough carnivals, learning the steel pan drums, and then performing to the community within this event.
We have also been able to provide opportunities for our groups to become part of theatre productions. Through these, our groups were able to learn full songs in BSL, and perform them while getting the opportunity to socialise with other residents within the community.
Other opportunities that have been provided include:
Visiting the Bricklane Musical
Trips to Southend
Arts and Crafts Sessions
Visits to various garden centres
And many other things
All of these have only been charged to our members at a small charge.
Our aim now is to be able to provide the same opportunities to at least 100 elderly residents and adults with SEND who live in the community. This gives them chance to attend groups for at least 1 or 2 days a week, where they are able to meet other isolated residents within the community. This will also give carers and families the chance to respite while knowing their loved ones are well cared for and having fun!
In the past we have found that these groups have improved each members well-being, and allows them the opportunity to become less isolated.
All of these groups have been and will continue to be run by dedicated volunteers. We have also had various members become volunteers too.
Due to the demand of more groups to be opened up successfully, by those within the borough, we are aiming to raise £10,000!
