Hello!
My name is Elliott and I am a trans person originally from Casper, Wyoming who now calls Oregon home. When I started hormone replacement therapy on June 8, 2017, it changed my life just as much as coming out has. The process greatly improved my mental health and helped me alleviate some of the gender dysphoria that I had been experiencing most of my life. The next step in my medical transition is to get top surgery.
My top surgery consult with Dr. Jens U. Berli is November, 1st at OHSU and hopefully I will be scheduled for surgery shortly after. My surgery will cost between $6,000-$10,000. I have to pay any amount due for surgery two weeks prior to the scheduled date or it doesn't happen, so I'm hoping to raise funds so when it comes, I'm ready and there is no barrier. I am grateful to be seeing a fantastic surgeon, but the costs are not fully covered by insurance. I have double coverage through my employer and my wife's employer, and yet despite that coverage I will have significant out of pocket cost. My primary insurance is a religious based company and so there is also a concern for denial. While my secondary insurance works great with OHSU, it isn't my primary so, the concern stands that I might get denied.
Dr. Berli's office will contact my insurance about a month before I come to see him and then will let me know if my surgery is approved or not and if so, how much I will need to pay myself -- so far it doesn't look like a small number, so I'm asking for help raising $3,000 and will update this page as I learn more from my doctor.

This top surgery means the world to me. The anxiety that comes daily is one I cannot wait to get off my chest. Everyday I put on a shirt and see how well I may or may not pass that day and often consider if bathrooms will be safe that day or if interactions with strangers be hostile. It is my chance to not have to constrict my body into a binder that limits my breathing. I look forward to experiencing the world in a more confident way that feels authentic to who I am.
