***Trigger warning...human trafficking, sexual assault***

Do you know Salka? Salka is an invaluable member of our community whose story you need to hear. As a teenager, Salka attempted to escape an abusive home life, and in the process was sold into modern day slavery as a trafficked child sex worker. Unwilling to comply, Salka was systematically raped and tortured for weeks as her “training process.” In her first attempt to flee, Salka was caught by another trafficker and simply traded from trafficker to trafficker like a stray animal. She lived this way for years surviving more hardships and trauma than can fit on this page.

Eventually, Salka received help from a non-profit, went to college where she earned an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, she now speaks publicly about her experiences as a way to shed light on this serious and very real issue of modern day slavery, and she works part-time at a non-profit doing the same work that helped save her.

Despite all of her experiences, Salka somehow, through the grace of God and her own immeasurable strength, put her justified anger aside so that she could be of use and provide guidance and support to others by sharing her story. She is one of the kindest, gentlest, most loving and caring people I know.

Salka would like to do this work full-time, and spread her message of trauma, survival and hope even further, but it is impossible to do advocacy work in a town like Binghamton without her own car. She is a single mother without family support and in January she was a passenger in an auto collision which fractured her tibia and fibia. You may have seen her hobbling off and on busses as she heads to speaking engagements and her part-time job, but to get a full-time job and make a difference while juggling the demand of single parenthood, Salka needs reliable transportation. Please take a moment and make any size donation to help her make the initial purchase, and she will be able to handle the rest. Your donation won’t just be putting one woman in a car, it will be bringing her story to ears that need to hear it and it will be providing help to at risk youth in your community by someone more fit to provide it than anyone I know.
