Get Rowan Facial Feminisation Surgery

Donation protected
UPDATE: I have reached my soft goal!!! I am going to keep this open just in case my appointment on the 25th March ends up with a way higher cost, but thank you to everyone who has donated, it means so much to me and I love you all very much!!

I am a 25 year old trans woman living in Brighton & Hove. I have been transitioning for about six years now, but despite getting bottom surgery in October 2020 and being on hormones for about half a decade, I still have horrendous face dysphoria. The NHS does not fund facial feminisation surgery despite it being medically necessary for a lot of us.

I am therefore building a long-term funding campaign to afford facial feminisation surgery. I've estimated the total cost to be around £18 000 [EDIT: this is now down to £8350 as I am focusing on my tracheal shave and genioplasty], but I will know more when I've had my consultation (something I ironically won't be able to afford until I've raised some money). I'm particularly dysphoric about my chin, jawline, and apple, so I will be focusing on those. My hopeful timeline is to raise enough to get my consultation done in the next year (by the close of 2021), and to raise enough to get the FFS done by 2023.

I am aiming to raise half the money myself over the next few years, but as I am a student / on a small mental health charity caseworker wage, there's just no way I'll be able to fund this wholly myself.

Getting this set of surgeries would radically alter my life - my face is the primary source of my dysphoria, and having the option of visually passing would give me a huge amount more freedom and safety than I currently do. I have pretty complex mental health, disability, and neurodivergence needs, which interact in incredibly distressing ways with my dysphoria, so it would radically improve my life to be able to get my face to the place I want it to be.

The trans communities I've been a part of, from NUS and university feminist and LGBTQ spaces, to my current work as a trans mental health advocate at the LGBTQ mental health charity MindOut, to my PhD on supporting trans people in suicidal distress, have shown me the strength and resilience that we collectively have.

I hope that I've shown up for other folks, and it would mean the world to me if I could make my dream of getting FFS a reality.

So, please, support a disabled trans lesbian today and help me get my face to a place where it allows me to thrive!

n.b. any money I raise that goes over the funding target, or if my target turns out to be too high, will be sent to trans mutual aid funds around the UK. I will also be updating this when I've reached my consultation milestone, and as I otherwise progress
