In my final year at Cornish College of the Arts I was offered an amazing opportunity to work with artist and Cornish alumni Lauren Iida. Her work captures the culture and community left standing after the Khmer Roughe successfully wiped out the majority of intellectuals and artists in Cambodia. Her life for the past six years has been dedicated to helping this modern renaissance of artists and musicians thrive after such a horrible gennoacide. I was personally selected and asked by my faculty if I would be interesting in assisting film Iida’s documentary in Cambodia and I couldn’t pass up such an opportunity. This money will go towards my air fare, lodging, travel between cities, food, etc. The cost to fly overseas and stay for ten days— December 29-January 8— is not easily funded on a college student budget but I believe it would be worth every penny. Not only would this be a job working for a professional artist but also a once in a life time chance to experience the beauty and culture of Cambodia so head on.
