Get LGBTQ Incarcerated Stories Published

Eric writes,

"I'm writing a book as of right now called "Prison Walls," based off the lives of Trans and LGBTQ members living inside of prison. I interview different inmates  and allow them a voice from inside the prison walls. I don't have any money or support from the outside so I have to do everything, and it's very hard to do in here because most of the community trades sexual favors for money. I refuse to do that so I stay up day and night working on this book hoping to get it out one day. I want to show the Queer and Trans Community inside that we do have a community of support on the outside. Is there any way you and the community out there can help me out with some funds for supplies and decent running shoes? The shoes I have now have holes in them everywhere. You don't know how much this would mean to me.

To let you know a little about myself, I'm serving an unjust sentence because of the Federal Mandatory Harsh Laws on Firearms. I like to read books, play sports, I like to cook and write. Having someone to talk to and write back and forth with from the LBTGQ Community is a dream come true.

The materials I need for my book project are:

1. Type writer (Brand New)
2. Radio (Brand new)
3. Tennis shoes (Brand new)
4. Writing paper, envelopes, pens, white out, tape
5. Typing connection tape for type writer
6. Typing ribbons for type writer
7. 3 Books of postal stamps
8. Book light
9. Big folders to put each chapter of book in
10. High lighters and markers
11. Copy machine cards to make copies of book pages
12. A pair of eye glasses (my eyes are bad for all the nights of staying up all night in the dark)
13. A small calculator
14. A tape recorder for book notes"

Eric is a member of the Black LGBTQ community who has been unjustly incarcerated in Illinois for several years. Dedicated to telling the stories of his LGBTQ family everywhere, he is currently working tirelessly to compile a  book of interviews with queer and trans incarcerated people in his facility despite many barriers to raising and saving money.

My name is AJ Rio-Glick and I am a white, trans, deaf, Jewish researcher, artist, writer, and abolitionist organizer with Queers Against Incarceration and Human Rights Coalition in Pittsburgh, PA. I met Eric through Black and Pink's penpal program and have been exchanging letters with him for several months, most of which consist of plans for publishing his book.

LGBT people in prisons are among the perhaps some of the most vulnerable people in the country, and face additional challenges than non-LGBTQ incarcerated people. There is limited literature available on LGBTQ incarcerated people's experiences, and even less that has been written from their own perspectives. Angela Davis writes, "Prisons do not disappear social problems, they disappear human beings." Eric's perseverance through the violence of the state to produce this book will further illuminate the stories of our community despite attempts to disappear them.

All funds raised here will be sent directly to Eric via commissary funds through the Western Union and I will post the receipt here when the money is sent. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, sharing, and donating.
