I never thought I would ever have to do this… All my life I have given to charity given to homeless and done my best to help others the way I was brought up.. I have never asked for help and always found a way through life.. Unfortunately the last couple of days have been an emotional rollercoaster.. I’m drained to the core..
This is Oscar’s Journey!
December 17th I received a call from my mother I never wanted to hear.. Oscar was his bouncy self and hyper the night before. On Sunday I was told that Oscar couldn’t get up he had lost use of all 4 legs.. I was 20 miles away and my family don’t have a car or money to get to the vets… I forgot it was a Sunday and was expecting the vets to be open..
I found an emergency Vet willing to take in Oscar as my own out of hours would not answer the phone. I Praise Animal Trust and all they have done so far..
Oscar was seen immediately and they tried to test his pressure points to see if there was feeling in his paws, He had nothing below the knee.. In the last 12 hours something happened and he went from running round a beach at 10knots to not having control of his body… I could see the pain in his eyes..
Oscar had X-Rays to check for any infections and Breaks to which this all came back clear, And toxicology was clear too, The ititial presumption was he might have suffered a Slipped Disc which is rare for Whippets or a Stroke.
Oscar stayed in the Vets care until Tuesday Night when they said he is best to come home awaiting an MRI Scan on Thursday.
Tuesday Night we got the call to bring Oscar for his scan on Wednesday due to a cancellation, I never hesitated I just wanted my boy to know what’s happening.
On Wednesday morning he surprised us with movement in his paws on his back leg but nothing more.
On his MRI assessment one pressure point worked and he cried but this is a good sign.
No pet owner should have to endure this but unfortunately it happens and unfortunately our loved animals cannot talk.
By Wednesday Evening I was told the lower neck has a dislodged disc causing pressure on his spine. Which could be causing his legs not to work, He would need an Operation this is going to cost between £4500-£5700.. Bare with for the breakdown.
I didn’t want to to my boy suffer and Thursday the operation went ahead as planned, It was a major surgery and it was 50/50.. My boy pulled through at 7 years old. Now the wait is on to see if the surgery was enough and can he stand on his own or is more Spinal surgery required.
You are probably wondering why have we not got insurance for Oscar and we have. I joined my insurance by a friend recommendation and been with them for years and never needed to claim.
The total Cost is £6394.68.
My current Insurance would potentially cover £1000, to which they are not classing the condition separate and will only pay £254.
I have paid the £1000 leaving £4894.68 to be found before end of February.
The vet stay with Animal Trust came to £899 which finally the insurance has agreed to pay.
The balance needs to be paid before End of February that I am struggling to pay, I have maxed out two cards and no one will give me a loan, I don’t get paid now till the end of January which won’t be enough to cover it.
I know it’s Christmas and we are all short. We as a family are pulling together the best we can to foot what we can,
I have not stopped applying for loans to get money from everywhere to avoid me having to make this page…
I wanted to see him run like he is supposed to. He is such a good character and you can see his personality and the bond we have.
I'm not asking for miracles but if you can spare a couple of Pounds, it all adds up and I am most grateful there are good people out there willing to help.
And hopefully one day I can return the favour
