Get Mikey running again!

Donation protected
This is Mikey, Joeys' best friend with a hefty dose of enthusiasm for... pretty much any crazy adventure that Joey thought up. Mikey and Joey embraced the good life together by his side ocean slaying, living on the edge, ATV riding, fishing, hunting, or just riding shotgun EVERYWHERE Joey went. If you knew Joey you knew Mikey. On November 13, 2020, Joey, a member of Local Union 777; a welder and pipe-fitter and graduate from Danbury High School in 2002, tragically lost his life at the West Haven VA hospital in a steam-pipe explosion.  Joey left behind Mikey, his beautiful wife Chrissy, and their expected son Joseph Robert.

As if 2020 didn’t suck enough especially after losing Joey...

Joey noticed Mikey had some lameness again about a month before his passing and assumed it was attributed to soreness from a previous flare-up from running around.  In the recent weeks during Joeys loss Mikey hadn't improved much so I took him into the vet for a check-up, only to find out this terrible news.  What we thought would be a vet visit to help heal a limp that Mikey developed turned out to be something much bigger than I had imagined. He tore both anterior cruciate ligaments and desperately needs two separate surgeries to repair his hind legs. Each surgery will be approximately $6000. According to the vet, there are two options for ACL tears: forego surgery and provide pain management or perform surgery to repair and replace the ligament in both legs.

The problem with foregoing the surgery: not repairing the ACL will cause increased soreness, arthritis, and limited activity, which can also cause severe uncomfortability and pain.

The alternative is performing the surgery: The surgery to repair his ACL is roughly $6000, which includes, X-rays, surgery, and post-operative care. Multiplied by two!

Mikey and Joey lead an extremely active lifestyle and he has many years left on this earth to be by Chrissy’s side and with his soon to be brother Joseph. To hear that he's torn both of his ACLs is heartbreaking, to say the least. Mikey is more than "just a dog;" he was Joeys' go-to, his best friend, and partner in crime.

At this point, anything big or small will help, as I try to figure out how we can get this guy back on his feet again. I’ve set up this GoFundMe page to help offset some of the costs of the surgery.  The urgency around this is painstakingly real. This is an expensive surgery but it’s so important that he has the best quality of life and best care he possibly can to live a long, comfortable life. It’s heartbreaking to watch a grieving dog that’s also physically hurt.

Thank you so much for your support and willingness to help.
