Get Lit. Against Domestic Violence

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Every year since Lit. on Fire Books first opened its doors, we have hosted a huge, multifaceted fundraising event to benefit Center for Prevention of Abuse, combined with a public speak out to give survivors an opportunity to share their stories, poems, and songs in solidarity with other supporters.

Due to covid-19, we will not be gathering together in person, but we still wish to collect donations to benefit Center for Prevention of Abuse. They provide so many valuable resources to our friends and neighbors who are struggling. Last year, we managed to raise over $2,000 for CFPA, and donated a carload of approved non-monetary goods from their list of acceptable donations.

This year, let’s start small, and work our way up from there, shall we? For now, let’s see if we can raise $1,000. I have a wonderful supporter willing to match your donations up to a total of $500, so we can do phase one VERY quickly and easily, I think! If we reach our initial goal, I will raise it in phase two by $500. Phase three will be the same, and so on and so forth until the end of October!

I am trying my best to come up with a solution for our (would be) regular speak out portion of this event. If you would like to record a video on the topic of domestic/ sexual violence- poetry, dance, music, or telling your story and speaking out against domestic violence, please contact me ASAP at [email redacted] or on social media. I will put together a Zoom meeting if we can't "put on a show" per se, and we can have an intimate virtual gathering to hold space for each other, tell our stories, share our poems and songs, etc. if nothing else, so be on the lookout for that in the coming weeks.

Also, if you prefer to write a check (made out to Center for Prevention of Abuse) or donate non-monetary goods, please do so at Lit. on Fire Books during our pandemic hours Tuesday-Saturday 2-8 pm. Please make sure your donations are from the approved list below. Please do not donate perishable items through our donation drive, but feel free to take them to CFPA yourself, because they definitely still need perishable food donations! The same applies to any large approved items—if I cannot fit it in my car to drop them off, please donate directly to CFPA instead. <3
