Get Jill to St Louis (Finally)

Donation protected
David and I are in need of some assistance. His write ups about our life events are usually super long-winded, so he thought I, Jill, should write this one, especially since it is so much about me. After over a year of stressful waiting, working, planning and saving, our situation has grown increasingly complicated and difficult. Just when it seemed we were in the clear, completely unrelated events really threw us.

The week prior to receiving my K-1 VISA in the mail my father was hospitalized due to complications resulting from a previous diagnosis. I took a lot of time off throughout the end of October and beginning of November travelling back and forth from the hospital in London, Ontario. My father was being treated in London and Windsor and so I decided to quit my job and throw out or move all my belongings to my parents’ house so I could be closer and help out. Things took a turn for the worst on November 25th when my dad finally succumbed to his illness and passed away.

We had planned to celebrate the VISA, move me and get married when my dad had recovered, now we were mourning. On top of me suddenly not working during the busy season we had to dip into our wedding/moving fund so David could come and take care of me and my mom. We were already around $2000 and 1 year into this immigration process, we really did have it all budgeted out.

We are OKAY but we have had some people messaging us about how they can help, and this is kinda how. We compared all the prices of moving my stuff and having David drive it in a U-Haul for 10 hours was the cheapest and easiest. It also still costs like $1300.00 USD. On top of the cost of the U-Haul we have impending legal fees associated with my permanent residency. In order to get me legally working we have to get legally married ($60.00+ USD for the marriage certificate, we’re just considering it more paperwork) and file for permanent residency ($1,225.00 USD) and have that paperwork processed and approved before I can start working. We plan on doing the “paperwork marriage” ASAP and having our meaningful (and “actual”, to us) wedding in the spring with friends and family.

A little background, if yer not *painfully* familiar from David’s #poutinearingonit campaign. We have been seeing each other since May of 2014 when we met at a roller derby tournament in Fort Wayne, IN. We spent the past 4 years train, plane and automobiling all over the continent to see each other for a few days at a time. We got engaged last year at the MRDA Championships tournament in Dallas, TX. We spent all year filling out paperwork, having background checks done, medical tests etc. to get the VISA. We have the visa we could just use some help getting me down to St. Louis. We have just started actually planning our wedding and are hoping for late March/Early April!

We are already so thankful for every friend who has helped us out. We have had legal aid, rides around various towns, flights arranged, couches to sleep on, trip companions, wedding services offered and just all around fantastic support.

Moving on January 1st, what a way to start the new year, eh?
