Hill Tribe Fusion, a sister team of designers Mang and Shang Thao based in Northern California, have been invited to showcase during New York Fashion Week (NYFW) this September. They plan to proudly present a collection incorporating their heritage using Hmong embroidery and textiles. Their road to NYFW has been a long and tough one. Hill Tribe Fusion was established in 2008 and they have worked tirelessly and passionately to get their designs to a broader audience. They will be the first ethnic Hmong fashion designers to ever show a modern Hmong inspired collection during fashion week and Need Your Help to make sure they can successfully represent.
NYFW has long been a premier fashion event where the industry’s top designers, as well as emerging ones, present their upcoming collections in a series of runway shows and presentations.
Mang and Shang love to infuse the Hmong culture in their modern designs and embrace all things couture and fantasy. They hope to inspire the youth and other dreamers to never let go of the arts and power of creativity. Often times with so many competing priorities in life, those items are put to the side.

Hill Tribe Fusion designs have been featured in multiple fashion shows, published in magazines and also worn in music videos. This enormous opportunity of showcasing at NYFW offers them a platform to show their “Spirit” collection, which features the theme of Ethnic Modernism using Hmong embroidery and textiles in modern fashion, to a new broad audience.
With designers all over the world competing to get into a show during NYFW, the designer fees and production costs are expensive. Below are the costs that you can help contribute to and Get Hill Tribe Fusion to NYFW:
$6,000 - Designer fees and production costs to show management
$1,500 – Airfare, transportation and other travel expenses for two people
$600 - Hotel ($150 x 4 nights)
$2,500 - Fabrics, threads, tools and mailings to show destination
