Get Greg and Jody Home

On December 2nd my cousin Jody and her husband Greg flew to the Dominican Republic for a holiday - on the 4th Greg mentioned that something wasn't feeling right while they were having supper. Moments later he excused himself and began to vomit severely. Jody took Greg to a medical facility in the area and was told that the cost of medical treatment for his case was going to be $2,000 USD and that their insurance (AXA Assistance Canada - Montreal) was not going to be covering it, calling the facility a fraudster. Prior to their vacation, Jody and Greg were told that their insurance would cover 2 million each if something were to happen. Greg was rushed from the medical clinic in the Dominican Republic to the hospital and was there for 4 days where he was miss diagnosed with pneumonia. Due to a language barrier, Jody was unable to get proper answers and did not know the types of medications he was on or was even allowed in the room most of the time. They discovered a hole in his esophagus when they began to tube him to relieve fluid from his lungs. After this, he was flown via Medivac from the Dominican Republic to Miami, Florida to perform emergency surgery. They waited a day before being treated and are now being told that they will not be performing any surgery. The hospital is requesting a Medivac back to Alberta but their insurance has informed Jody that their medical coverage has been maxed out and will not cover the Medivac flight home. We need Greg to be flown home via Medivac to get the care that he needs here in Calgary!
