Get Devlyn a wheelchair

Donation protected
*UPDATE: thank you all for helping us reach the goal for the chair. There is still so much we can do for Devlyn’s family, such as ramps and other accessibility devices. Any extra money will go to her family for that, and also put towards getting chairs for other kids in Devlyn’s same situation, so feel free to keep donating!*Everyone, meet Devlyn. She is 6 years old, with an infectious laugh and smile that will melt any of our hearts. She is an ESS student at Goodnight Elementary School in Pueblo, Colorado. Like many girls her age, she loves pink and purple, and her absolute favorite cartoon character is Minnie Mouse. I've known Devlyn for about 8 months now, as I am studying to become a Special Education teacher, and she is in the class I've done field work in. Devlyn was born at 24 weeks (16 weeks premature) with microcephally, meaning her head was much smaller than normal. This has caused a speech delay, intellectual disabilities, abnormal muscle control, and seizures. On top of all this, she was diagnosed with diplegic cerebral palsy at birth, as well as seizure disorder. Staying in the ICU for 107 days after birth, she is a true miracle baby if there ever was one. Due to her conditions, Devlyn requires special mobility devices, mainly a certain type of wheelchair, which she has gotten through Medicaid previously. Medicaid only pays for a wheelchair for those like Devlyn every 5 years, and Devlyn received her wheelchair at the age of 2, just four years ago. Like all kids that age, of course Devlyn has grown quite a bit! At this point, she has outgrown her wheelchair where she spends a majority of her day, but medicaid will not pay for a new one for another year. As of now, her only mode of transportation is a walker which her body is too weak to use for more than a few minutes a day, a stroller which she is also too big for, or crawling. She can't be living this way for an entire year, so this is why we need the help! The wheelchairs which fit her specific needs cost upwards of $2,000 and every dollar helps. If by some miracle we exceed the goal amount, excess funds will go back to ensuring no other child with cerebral palsy has to go without adequate mobility when faced with the challenges. So, please, help us get Devlyn her wheelchair!
