Hello Family and Friends, thank you for stopping by our page to help out Daniel. We’re Yolanda, Jim, Mario and Daniel’s family and are organizing this fundraiser to help them out in their time of need.

This past week Daniel went to Texas State for freshman orientation. What should have been a fun start to the summer and future turned to chaos after a basketball game incident left Daniel in the emergency room with possible internal trauma to the bladder and kidneys. Following complications, he was quickly transferred from San Marcos to the South Austin Medical Center and admitted to the Shock Trauma Intensive Care Unit with a level 5 fracture to the kidney. By Friday afternoon he received a cystoscopy to place a stent in hopes of stopping the internal bleeding and begin healing. The doctors will wait until Monday to see whether the kidney is accepting procedure.

As you all know Daniel is a strong, active kid who is now on a long road to recovery starting with an extended hospital stay. Yolanda and Jim are at his side and would appreciate prayers as their family begins this journey together. To make matters more difficult, at the time of the incident Daniel was between insurance and his various medical bills will not be covered. The financial burden is significant, and any help would be much appreciated to take off some of the stress from this new reality they face.

Please join us in helping Daniel heal with both prayer and donations so he’ll be back on his feet and prepping for college in no time! We love this family and know how much they’ve appreciated their communities coming together in this difficult time already. The donations will go directly towards Daniel’s staggering medical bills as he continues his hospital stay.

We’ll be posting updates as they happen and please share this link to anyone who might be able to help.

Thank you very much!

With love and deep gratitude, Daniel’s family.

Thank you so much for your continued prayers and donations, y’alls continued love is greatly appreciated.

Update #2:
This past Friday, Daniel had his two stents removed from his kidney and underwent his 4th surgery. His liver is now divided up into sections sections and held together by an artery. Fortunately, the surgery was a success and there were no complications!  He remains fairly immobile with limitations on any twisting or activity that could cause reinjury or the puncturing of his now divided kidney.

The follow-up is a CT scan in about three months to see if the kidney is still doing well and the continued watch of any internal bleeding or leakage. In addition, fingers crossed, he can start physical therapy in about 6 months or so when he can move a bit easier. Though he is healing, the difficulties of his new reality begins. With as much trauma his kidney has gone through, his team of doctors have began to let him know of the limitations he’ll have for the future, including sports. We all know Daniel to be a fiercely competitive and active kid who loves any sport with a ball and is now facing life-altering news of having to stop, potentially for life.

Thank you again for the continuous help, donations, and prayers. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and feel free to keep sharing. Specific prayer requests are for the following: -continued healing of the body -healing and peace for his mind, particularly with the news of limited active activities  -for Yolanda, Jim, and Mario as they help Daniel grow accustomed to his new lifestyle -for all current and future medical bills, that the hospital may find room to negotiate -and for all those who find themselves uninsured, may we all find a way forward to keep all healthy and safe.

6/18 Update: Thank you everyone for your donations! We are all in awe of the generosity Daniel's community has shown.

For a brief update: Daniel had his CT scan today to show whether the kidney was accepting treatment or not after his operation last week. Though leakage continues, the doctor felt he would be okay enough to be discharged today with a follow-up scheduled for this Friday. While not the best news, we're grateful he can start making his way back to Houston and rest in his own bed. Continued prayers would be appreciated for his kidney to continue healing, for his follow-up this Friday to go well, and that the medical bills can be negotiated as the financial toll of being uninsured begins to set in. Please continue sharing and thank you all for your well wishes, the family appreciates the love and support that has been shown.
