Donating to my GoFundMe will support me in completing my Master’s Degree research project in Ghana, rounding out my Global Public Health Policy education in a powerfully deep way while providing the
population I work with vitally needed health services support. I’ve created this gofundme because I lost the financial aid I had been relying on for funding. I want to share this experience with you and am offering some Ghana related gifts below.
What You’re Supporting
You will be directly supporting the work I will be doing in the remote northwest region of Wa in Ghana. I’ll be traveling to Ghana from June 27 th to July 21st in conjunction with UMass Amherst. In coordination with Wa’s District Director of Health Services, I will be working on developing a health program targeted at teens to reduce unwanted pregnancy.
You will also be supporting my career goal of bridging the gap between the knowledge base available in Western countries and its application for effective use in under-developed areas like Africa. My work in
Ghana will provide me not only the first hand, real world experience I can use to inform my future work, but also begin building a network of collaborators placed all over the world.
What I’m Asking For
I’ve been careful in planning my financial aid and resources, but came to find out that because I split my course work over the past two semesters I lost my financial aid. I’ve already been doing extra work and
finding other ways to make money, but see that I am going to come up short.
My goal is to raise $2,000 to cover the cost of airfare and some travel expenses. I’ll be covering the other costs of the trip to Ghana that includes lodging, meals, course registration and visa, which comes to $5,000.
What You’ll Get For What You Give
In return, while I’m willing to do most anything for you (wash your car, babysit your kids, make you a pie to bring to your family for Thanksgiving, give your cat insulin, teach you how to knit, make you witty and artful protest signs) I’d like to offer something back with more meaning.
For each donor, I will offer you a personalized gift from my experience:
$10 – Thank You card from me!
$20 – A tiny knitted llama (made by me!)
$30 – A 5x7 photo taken in Accra or the Wa District
$40 – A set of three 5x7 photos taken in Accra or the Wa District
$50 - A piece of fabric, small art or other trinket from Ghana
(If this does not come to fruition, all donations will be returned)
What Your Long Term Impact Will Be
It’s hard for me to be reaching out for help right now and I debated on even offering it. I can only say that your contribution will be directly funding some very hard work I’ll be doing, and producing some valuable
results that will tip the scale for the people in that region towards good health and better quality of life.
Whatever you donate, and whatever you receive back in the short term, just know that I plan to keep paying it forward throughout my career because that is what’s driving me to be in this field to begin with.
