Envirothon is an environmental sciences based competition focusing on five main topics: Soils, Aquatics, Forestry, Wildlife, and an annually picked current issue, which this year is Agricultural Soil and Water Conservation.
Who we are:
The Pali High Envirothon team (GOAT) has won the California State Envirothon competition and will be representing California in the North American competition taking place in Maryland at the end of July. We are raising money to reach Maryland and compete against over 50 other teams from the U.S. and Canada. Our team is composed of five recently graduated high school students (all girls!!) and an advisor named Steve. We need to raise $7000 to so we can afford airfare and lodging. Otherwise, we won’t be able to compete and California will go unrepresented. Please consider donating any possible amount to help. Thank you!
What we do:
The competition is based on written tests and an oral presentation. The written tests include questions based off of prior knowledge in the five previously mentioned topics and field tests regarding the topics (e.g. testing the pH of streams, measuring the height and age of trees, identifying skulls and scat). The oral presentation is based on a hypothetical scenario relating to the current issue. This year, Pali High’s team, GOAT, placed in each topic and won first place overall statewide.
